Project Overview
Formerly the Central Steel and Wire manufacturing plant, Amazon will be constructing a 230,000 sf last mile distribution facility. The site is currently zoned for manufacturing use and is within one of Chicago's industrial corridors. This property has sat vacant for several years but will once again generate jobs and tax revenue for the city. Amazon is engaged with the local community and has prioritized creating green spaces outside of the building footprint.
The plans for the new development provide a significant increase in natural landscape featuring generous setbacks and a 51% reduction in impervious area. This change means less concrete and more green space. New native plants and pollinator habitats, coupled with tree canopy enhancements, will further reduce heat island impacts. The site will also be equipped with charging infrastructure to support electric delivery vehicles.
