Demolition Plan

This site has been an industrial property since the late 1930s and was most recently a steel-and-wire fabrication facility who removed all chemicals and equipment when they vacated the property. Underground storage tanks have all been removed from the site, and hazardous buildings materials have been abated and removed from the site buildings in anticipation for demolition and development under an approved permit from City of Chicago Department of Public Health.

What happened at the site?

Mitigation Plan:

  • Demolition of west and northwest manufacturing buildings is complete

  • Central manufacturing building and office buildings along 51st street is 70% complete

  • Concrete crushing operations have started and will continue for the next several months

Going Forward

Demolition is being performed in compliance with City of Chicago Department of Public Health requirements who will also be conducting routine inspections of the work and air quality monitoring.

Demolition Work Hours

  • Monday-Friday: Gates open at 7:00 AM; demolition begins at 8:00 AM; gates close at 6:30 PM

  • Saturday: Gates open at 7:00 AM; demolition begins at 8:00 AM; gates close at 4:30 PM
